Safyr for Oracle

You can use Safyr to work with the metadata in your Oracle eBusiness Suite, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, PeopleSoft, and Siebel applications.

Safyr harvests the metadata, including your customizations, from these systems ensuring that you are working with up to date and relevant information. This process makes it immediately ready for your data engineers and data scientists to explore, analyze, curate and exploit. They do not need to possess deep technical knowledge of these packages or have access to the application’s own tools.

Without a specialist tool for metadata discovery, doing this presents a significant challenge which can threaten trust in data, delay delivery of project benefits and cause cost overruns and loss of control.

This is because of the specific characteristics of Oracle’s enterprise systems applications which include a large, unwieldy, complex and opaque metadata model. Critical information such as business names and descriptions for tables, attributes and other objects, as well as the relationships between tables and attributes is not easily available.

Safyr extracts the metadata from the application data dictionary tables in the application database using Microsoft ADO (ActiveX Data Objects).

Metadata harvested

Business (logical) and Technical (physical) names for tables, attributes, domains, views and data elements, as well as and other objects. This includes customisations.

JD Edwards (EnterpriseOne)

Connectivity

Safyr extracts the metadata from a small set of tables in the application database and from a group of XML files that are generated by a process in the JD Edwards EnterpriseOne application.

Metadata harvested

Business (logical) and Technical (physical) names for tables, attributes, domains, views and data elements, as well as and other objects. This includes customisations. The relationships (primary and foreign keys) between tables in JD Edwards EnterpriseOne are not defined in either the System Catalog or in the Data Dictionary tables. Safyr infers these from the metadata it gathers from the application.

Oracle Data Models

Safyr® is more than about providing a quick way to get at relevant Oracle data models, but Oracle data models are often a by-product of using Safyr.

Be it BI for Oracle, Master Data Management for Oracle or Data Governance for Oracle, an accurate and relevant Oracle data model will often be an important step in understanding the Oracle data.
