Safyr for SAP

Use Safyr to work with the metadata in your SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, SAP BW/4HANA, SAP BW, SAP MDG, and SAP SuccessFactors applications.

Safyr harvests the metadata, including customizations, from these systems, ensuring that you are working with up to date and relevant information. This process makes it immediately ready for your data engineers and data scientists to explore, analyze, curate and exploit. They do not need to possess deep technical knowledge of these packages or have access to SAP tools.

Without a specialist tool for SAP metadata discovery, doing this presents a significant challenge which can threaten trust in data, delay delivery of project benefits and cause cost overruns and loss of control.

This is because of the specific characteristics of SAP’s enterprise systems applications which include a large, complex and opaque metadata model. Critical information such as business names and descriptions for tables, attributes and other objects, as well as the relationships and internal lineage between tables and attributes is not easily available using conventional discovery methods.

SAP S/4HANA and ECC

Connectivity

Safyr uses a SAP-certified interface to extract metadata from your SAP systems.

Metadata harvested

Safyr will extract metadata from any ABAP-based SAP application. Metadata extracted includes all Base Tables, Views, Fields, Relationships that define the SAP data landscape. Readable 'business names' and definitions are extracted in the SAP language or languages of your choice.
For an SAP application like S/4HANA or ECC6, Safyr also extracts details of SAP Components, Packages, Programs and Transaction Codes, and presents these in a hierarchy that shows how the various features of SAP uses the data structure.

SAP BW/4HANA and BW

Connectivity

Safyr uses a SAP certified interface to extract metadata from your SAP BW systems.

Metadata harvested

Safyr extracts metadata from BW ‘Classic’, BW on HANA and BW/4HANA systems.  Definitions of InfoProviders, DataSources, InfoSources, Hana Calculation Views, Queries and InfoObjects are extracted.
In order to help you gain a better understanding of the metadata in an SAP BW system, Safyr reveals the ‘lineage’ of data as it flows through the BW system.
For example, you can see which Queries are based on a Cube, or which Cubes are used by a Query.

SAP MDG

Connectivity

Safyr uses a SAP-certified interface to extract metadata from your SAP MDG systems.

Metadata harvested

Safyr extracts MDG Data Models from your SAP MDG systems, and definitions of associated Flex and Reuse tables. This includes customizations.

SAP SuccessFactors

Connectivity

Safyr uses an XML file containing ODATA definitions of SuccessFactors data structures to populate the Safyr repository. You can easily generate the XML file from the SuccessFactors system.

The ODATA definitions of Tables, Fields and Relationships are extracted.

SAP Data Models

Safyr® is more than about providing a quick way to get at relevant SAP data models, but SAP data models are often a by-product of using Safyr.

Be it BI for SAP, Master Data Management for SAP or Data Governance for SAP, an accurate and relevant SAP data model will often be an important step in understanding the SAP data.

In order to illustrate what the product can do, we offer an extensive set of pre-built entity-relationship models.  Below are examples SAP data model showing the kind of thing that is available.
