SAP Bill of Materials Explosion

Data Model and Analysis
A screenshot of data tables

We have created a large number of sample data models which are designed to illustrate how you could use Safyr to gain access to and insight into the metadata your complex ERP applications from the ERP vendors (SAP, Salesforce, Microsoft and Oracle) that the product supports.

It is very common for metadata from these applications to be critical to the success of broad range of data related projects such as data governance, data catalog, data warehouse, and data migration.

One of the first we created was a data model of the SAP tables used in the Bill of Materials (BOM) Explosion process.  The model was created following some analysis in Safyr® and then exported into our Safyr ER Diagrammer visualization tool. This model is shown at the Primary and Foreign key level.  Full attribute information is available using the other model display levels.

To see how we have achieved this, there is a short video showing how the tables that make up the model were determined. Shown are the Bill of Materials Explosion tables from a standard SAP ECC6 system. These may not be identical to the set of tables implemented at a given customer site due to customisations.  Here is the link to the video showing how they were created:

Obviously in 'real life' you would use one or more of our other methods for sharing these information with other products such as Collibra, Alation, Precisely, Quest, Zeenea, Idera ER/Studio and more.

If you would like to request this or any of the others we provide to help you evaluate Safyr's capabilities, please visit this It’s available below in PowerDesigner and Erwin formats.  I can make it available in other formats for anyone that doesn’t have these tools – just drop me a message via the comments box stating your desired format and I’ll see what I can do.

As we are providing something which could be usable in some contexts… here is the legal bit. In no event will Silwood Technology Ltd be liable for any indirect, special or consequential loss arising out of or in any way relating to the use or performance or the use or misuse of the information presented in this model.
